soft[cover]revolution is an exhibition that shows around fifty different publications by independent publishers. The works are presented considering their ability to erase the difference between leisure and business, work and free time.

Hobbies

If we admit there is knowledge in personal experiences, hobbies and affections that occupy our free time with a strong ability to resignify it, if we assume there is power in downtime, we can approach this selection of publications as objects that propose ways of resistance to the programmatic experience of living.

Dolce far niente

If we admit there is knowledge in personal experiences, hobbies and affections that occupy our free time with a strong ability to resignify it, if we assume there is power in downtime, we can approach this selection of publications as objects that propose ways of resistance to the programmatic experience of living.

Men at work

Is it possible that by enjoying a hobby we get reminded of the existence and relevance of its opposite; labour? Is it possible that the hobby is also coopted as another form of labour or at least an essential part of it?

Accumulations

Far from employing universal formulas, in the modes of production we can observe the ability to arise subjectivity and generate a sense of identity. From this point of view these publications engage in a different relationship with the interlocutor. The short runs, the presence of an effort close to craftsmanship and the strong personal factor in their discourse help these publications to recover a human scale.

Deformations

These publications that act in the breaches of the system, find their political power in the soft revolution tactic of internal rearrangements and constant negotiation with the exterior. The concept was first used by Neil Postman in the context of education with an electrifying ambivalence. The acting territory of this soft revolution is on one hand desired by the voracity of capital and on the other, occupied by creativity and resistance: a territory in constant struggle. Located in the controversy of knowledge, power and subjectivity, where can the pertinence of these type of publications lie nowadays?
